“The solution to the Cyprus problem, the reunification of our country and our people, remains a priority for the Cypriot working class. The struggle for a United Federal Cyprus, based on the political equality of the two communities, with single sovereignty, single citizenship, and single international identity, continues to be our priority“, Yeniduzen reports.
“On April 11, 1965, the fascist killers who murdered Derviş Ali Kavazoğlu and Kostas Mişaulis were cursed. Our heroes, Kavazoğlu and Mişaulis, continue to illuminate the path for all Cypriots today and inspire us in our struggles
“We know that there is a road for all Cypriots, including Cypriot Greeks, Cypriot Turks, Maronites, Armenians, and Latins, to live in peace and security in a democratic environment. Despite all difficulties, fascist and racist reactions, we will continue to walk this path resolutely. While once again respectfully commemorating our heroic martyrs, we will keep their memories alive in our struggle“.
“We are gathered here once again to honour the brave heroes of the Cypriot working class, Derviş Ali Kavazoğlu and Kostas Mişaulis, whom we remember with respect every year and at all times. On behalf of the Revolutionary Workers’ Federation and Cypriot Turkish workers, I greet you with love and respect.
“Kavazoğlu and Mişaulis, in the darkest periods of Cyprus history, when inter-communal conflicts, oppressions, and brutal killings of those who advocated leftist ideas were rampant, courageously and heroically defended the friendship, cooperation, and coexistence of Cypriot Turks and Cypriot Greeks….
“Dear friends, after the negotiations reached an impasse in Crans-Montana [2017], the negotiation process in our country Cyprus has been disrupted. Together, we must raise our voices for the negotiations to resume immediately and yield results at Crans-Montana.
“The solution to the Cyprus problem, the reunification of our country and our people, remains a priority for the Cypriot working class. The struggle for a United Federal Cyprus, based on the political equality of the two communities, with single sovereignty, single citizenship, and single international identity, continues to be our priority.
“As a result of the status quo created in Northern Cyprus and the economic packages imposed by the AKP government in Turkey, the social existence, identity, and culture of Cypriot Turks are eroding day by day. Demographic structure is being altered through population policies that violate international law. Public assets are being privatised, and trade union rights are being sought to be abolished through economic packages. Insecure informal and subcontracted forms of employment are systematically spreading. We resist all these impositions and will continue to resist…..”
Today, I would like to once again commemorate Fazıl Önder, Savvas Menikos and dozens of other patriots who opposed the brotherhood of the two communities in Cyprus and the divide-and-rule policies of imperialism. Because they were massacred because they believed in the unity of the working class and the integrity of our country“.
“Against the neoliberal policies imposed by imperialist powers that divide our country and turn the world into a bloodbath, we continue our struggle in solidarity with our sister union PEO under the umbrella of the World Federation of Trade Unions”.
