A Work Amnesty Bill will soon become law in order to curb the number of illegal workers in North Cyprus, Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Faiz Sucuoglu has said.
The minister told BRT that they would also be stopping workers entering the TRNC from third countries for the time being.
Currently, there are around 9,000 illegal workers in the TRNC who are homeless and sleeping rough, Sucuoglu said. He added the following:
“In 2010 the workers from third countries numbered 2917, in 2018 this number reached 14,657. This is a six-fold increase. Also, the number of workers from Turkey in 2010 were 27, 792 and in 2018 were 33,255”.
