During his interview, Arıklı highlighted the key priorities set by the Traffic and Transportation Services Commission, emphasising the importance of addressing issues related to speeding, drink driving, and reckless driving. He stressed the need for imposing strict penalties to tackle these issues effectively.
Arıklı also announced measures to address drunk driving, stating that vehicles driven by individuals with a blood alcohol level exceeding 150 milligrams per decilitre will be seized. Additionally, it was decided that confiscated vehicles will be towed to municipal parking lots. Arıklı further explained that detained drivers will face legal proceedings, and their vehicles will be held by the police until the court reaches a verdict. He mentioned plans for municipalities to establish designated parking areas for these vehicles, with charges applied for each day the vehicle remains parked.
In addition to this, Arıklı said that 146 traffic cameras were to be installed on the roads.
Meanwhile, in a report by Kibris Gazetesi, it was stated that among the decisions taken by the newly-formed Traffic and Transportation Services Commission were to provide traffic training in schools after working with the Ministry of National Education and to select a pilot school for the training.
In addition, it was decided that the learner’s licence exam, which was previously conducted orally, would be conducted in writing and the Traffic Training Book and exam questions would be translated into three languages (English, Russian, Arabic). According to the Traffic Services Planning, Coordination and Control Law, Minister of Public Works and Transport Arıklı will inform the Council of Ministers within 15 days about these three decisions taken by the Traffic and Transportation Services Commission.
