Deputy Prime Minister-Foreign Minister Kudret Özersay held separate meetings with former President Mehmet Ali Talat and the leader of the Social Democratic Party (TDP) Cemal Özyiğit on Thursday, as part of his consultations with TRNC political actors regarding the government’s initiative on Maraş/Varosha.
In a post on social media after the meetings, Özersay said that the government’s dialogue with the different actors in the country will continue.
Commenting on the criticisms directed against him by the so-called Mayor of Maraş Alexis Galanos, Özersay urged the Greek Cypriot authorities to refrain from making biased and prejudiced statements.
“We clearly stated that any moves we might take regarding the fenced-off city of Maraş will be in a manner which will not violate or infringe the rights of its former residents. We recognize that the former property owners are one of the parties included in the process. We shall be conducting an inventory of all the movable and immovable properties in Maraş which will provide us with a clearer picture of what we are dealing with. There is no need to mislead people”, he said.
