A pedestrian who was crossing the road was struck by a vehicle in Nicosia yesterday. According to a statement from the Police Press Office, Talin Atakan (33) was driving a saloon car northbound at around 1 pm. When he reached the vicinity of the Turkish Bank, he collided with Obumnaeme Peter Nwankwo (37), who was crossing the road outside of a designated pedestrian crossing due to Atakan’s lapse in attention, Kibris Postasi reported.
Obumnaeme Peter Nwankwo sustained injuries from the accident* and was transported to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia. He was diagnosed with a fracture in his right knee and is currently being monitored in the Orthopaedic Department.
In a separate incident, at approximately 7.30 pm yesterday, Arda Kaya (27) lost control of his motorcycle, while traveling towards Nicosia on the Kyrenia-Nicosia Highway. Due to inattention, he veered into the oncoming lane.
At that moment, a truck, driven by Cemal Okur (36), was waiting to turn towards Boğazköy on the right side of the road. The truck collided with the left rear section of the motorcycle.
As a result of this accident, motorcyclist Arda Kaya was also taken to Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a fracture in his right leg and is now under observation in the Orthopaedic Department.
