The People’s Party (HP), one of the four partners of the coalition government, has withdrawn from the government.
The decision came following a four-hour meeting of the HP party assembly yesterday.
Speaking after the meeting, the leader of the HP Kudret Özersay, said that they always strived to keep the government going over the past 15 months but added that the current situation was deeply disturbing and no longer sustainable.
“We are face to face with a crisis of confidence and trust”, Özersay said.
He added that decisions which the HP was against but which had been approved by the council of ministers had been implemented.
Stating that the current situation could no longer be tolerated, he said the party assembly took a decision to withdraw from the government.
“We will decide whether or not to remain in opposition or whether to hold government talks with other parties. However, we will act by counting upon the experiences we have gained over the last 15 months”, Özersay said.
