The UBP-YDP-DP coalition is now preparing to grant permission for a hotel with a casino inside Ercan Airport to the airport operator T&T, Yeniduzen reports.
Official documents, disclosed by CTP MP Sami Özuslu, reveal that the company owned by Emrullah Turanlı, which has had its tax debts forgiven multiple times and received 59 million Euros in one instance, has requested permission for a hotel and casino at the airport.
Özuslu, presenting the documents, criticised the government, saying, “This tripartite coalition government solves none of the public’s problems, continuously makes life more expensive, and drives producers and tradespeople into bankruptcy. Yet, they are now scrambling to please certain sectors. They have repeatedly erased T&T’s tax debts, gifted them 59 million Euros at once, and provided every possible privilege. Now, they are gearing up to grant permission for a hotel with a casino inside Ercan Airport“.
On his social media account, Özuslu noted, “Ercan operator T&T submitted its project to Minister Arıklı. Arıklı’s Undersecretary also contacted the Ministry of Tourism to follow up on the matter“.
Özuslu pointed out that the government has also submitted a proposal to parliament to amend the Games of Chance Law, explaining, “Currently, casino permits can only be granted in the Bafra region. The proposed amendments include provisions that would facilitate T&T’s request“.
Emphasising that “the Üstel-Ataoğlu-Arıklı trio continues to serve big capital rather than the people suffering under high costs“, Özuslu concluded with a quote from a poet: “Know them well to grow wiser……“
Meanwhile, Kibris Postasi reports that according to Minister of Public Works and Transport, Erhan Arıklı the application made to Ercan Airport was only for a boutique hotel and that this application was currently under evaluation.
In addition, Arıklı emphasised that every investment made at the airport will contribute to the country’s economy and every invoice issued at the airport will return to the state as tax. He expressed his surprise regarding assertions that there would be an application for a permit for a casino on the premises.
