Deputy Chairman and spokesperson of Turkey’s Justice and Development (AK) Party, Ömer Çelik, expressed the party’s intention on Wednesday to commemorate the anniversary of the 1974 Turkish Peace Operation in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, BRTK reports.
Addressing the media at the AK Party Headquarters regarding Turkish President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s recent meeting with Özgür Özel, Chairman of Turkish Republican People’s Party (CHP), Çelik underscored the significance of the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation.
Regarding the meeting between Erdoğan and Özel, Çelik remarked, “Our President emphasised the importance of strong unity with Özel, the CHP, and other parties during the 50th anniversary events commemorating the Peace Operation. We look forward to celebrating this milestone together in the TRNC”.
He also acknowledged the imminent anniversary, honouring the late Bülent Ecevit and Necmettin Erbakan for their roles in the operation. “Our President once again highlighted the contributions of the late Ecevit and Erbakan. He stressed the necessity of a united front with Özel, the CHP, and other parties during this significant occasion. Our hope is to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Peace Operation together in Northern Cyprus, contingent upon the schedules of CHP officials”.
