Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kudret Özersay held an informal meeting with Greek Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis in Limassol yesterday evening.
Özersay, himself a former negotiator, announced his informal meeting with Mavroyiannis on his social media account. He said: I believe in the importance of establishing a dialogue without the need to prove something to others and without any intermediaries.
Özersay noted that he had exchanged views with Mavroyiannis.
Minister Özersay had already held an informal meeting with the Greek Cypriot negotiator while he was in New York for the UN General Assembly meetings.
This morning on social media Özersay wrote:
“I had an informal meeting yesterday with Greek Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis. We met in New York a little while ago and we continued our exchange of views on different topics this time in Limassol.
“For the last 50 years in Cyprus, we have been discussing what will happen in the future and having theoretical discussions. Therefore we have been unable to live in the present. I believe that it is important to establish a direct dialogue with this kind of intermediary, in other words, without the need to prove something to the United Nations or other international actors.”
