This newly found water source, with a secure extraction capacity of 80 tons per hour, has been recognised as the most productive well ever drilled in the Çatalköy region of the Kyrenia Mountain Range Aquifer. The remarkable discovery was achieved through the dedicated and uninterrupted efforts of the Geological and Mineral Resources Department’s engineers and technical staff, led by Acting Drilling Branch Manager Geological Engineer Oğuz Vadilili and Acting Hydrogeology Branch Manager Geological Engineer Salih Erşangil.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, Fikri Ataoğlu, visited the site to inspect the water source and to commend the personnel for their hard work. He was accompanied by Ayşen Albayrak, Director of the Geological and Mineral Resources Department.
During his visit, Ataoğlu highlighted that this significant discovery, made possible through the department’s resources after seven years, represents the richest water source ever found in TRNC history. He emphasised that the 168-metre-deep water source, with its 80 tons per hour capacity, will greatly benefit the water needs of Çatalköy and surrounding villages. Ataoğlu also mentioned that similar exploration efforts have commenced in the Lapta region, aiming to uncover another substantial water source there.
Ataoğlu assured that the analysis results of the discovered water would be promptly conducted and shared with the public. He expressed his gratitude to the Geological and Mineral Resources Department staff for their continuous and dedicated efforts, underscoring that their hard work and success deserve recognition.
