The government has decided, just before schools were supposed to open, that the new school year will be delayed by a week, Yeniduzen reports.

The government explained that the delay is because the teacher hiring process hasn’t been completed yet, so the start date has been pushed to Monday, September 23. The sudden decision, published in the Official Gazette, states: “The Cabinet has decided that all public schools under the Primary Education Directorate, General Secondary Education Directorate, and Vocational Technical Education Directorate will begin the 2024-2025 school year on Monday, September 23, 2024, due to the ongoing teacher hiring process“.

  • 19 school buildings are out of use.
  • There are a total of 87 container classrooms in 24 schools.
  • Strengthening works are ongoing in 8 schools.
