Three men charged with the murder of Halil Falyalı and his driver Murat Demirtaş in Çatalköy on February 8, 2022 have been found guilty on all 17 charges made against them, Yeniduzen reports.
The trial for their murders took place at Kyrenia Heavy Penal Court. The defendants Ömer Tunç, Veysel Sare, and Musa Çiçek were found guilty on all 17 charges. The court has postponed the sentencing decision to August 7, 2024.
On February 8, 2022, Halil Falyalı was shot in his car in Çatalköy and later died from his injuries at the hospital. His driver, Murat Demirtaş, died at the scene.
On February 14, 2022, police found two Kalashnikov rifles, magazines, and ammunition near the crime scene. Ballistics confirmed these were the weapons used. Veysel Sare, Musa Çiçek, and Ömer Tunç were arrested in North Cyprus, while eight suspects, including Mustafa Söylemez, were arrested in Turkey.
On January 19, 2024, the Istanbul 36th Heavy Penal Court sentenced Mustafa Söylemez to two life sentences for premeditated murder. Other defendants received varying sentences for aiding the murders.
The court in North Cyprus will decide the penalties for Tunç, Sare, and Çiçek on August 7, 2024.
