The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is holding its spring session in Strasbourg from 8-12 April.
Turkish Cypriot MPs Armağan Candan (CTP) and Hamza Ersan Saner (UBP) are attending the General Assembly and Committee meetings of (PACE).
CTP MP Armağan Candan made a speech to the General Assembly of PACE. According to the TRNC Strasbourg Representative’s Office, Candan gave information about the latest political developments and the negotiation process in Cyprus and stressed that the Turkish Cypriot side does not accept the current status quo in Cyprus.
Candan said the reshaping of the negotiating process under the UN umbrella is of great importance. In his speech. He also touched upon the report on the rights and needs of internally displaced persons in Europe, which also related to events in Cyprus and which are taking place on the island.
He said that this began in 1963 with the migration of both Cypriot communities, who suffered serious experiences of victimization on the island.
Concerning the missing persons issue, Candan stated that both Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots are missing and that the bi-communal Committee on Missing Persons has been a serious contributor and that the Turkish Cypriot side had fulfilled its part in this regard.
