Üstel Opts for Private Hospital Despite No Urgent Need

PM - Unal Ustel
[Prime Minister Ünal Üstel]
Doctors have clarified that Prime Minister Ünal Üstel who went to a private hospital for surgery was not referred by them but went of his own accord, Yeniduzen reported.  Üstel initially visited Nicosia State Hospital on Friday with a digestive complaint, where he underwent several tests, including abdominal scans, blood tests, and a cardiology exam. Although gallstones were detected, no acute issues were found, and he was placed under observation.

Despite no medical referral, Üstel then opted to visit the Near East University Hospital, where he underwent laparoscopic closed biliary surgery on his gallbladder. His decision to proceed privately rather than through the state hospital sparked criticism, with Health Minister Hakan Dinçyürek stating that Üstel had been referred due to a lack of state equipment. However, doctors disputed this, affirming that they made no referral and noting that Üstel chose to go privately despite no immediate need.
