UN special envoy Jane Holl Lute is expected to meet with President Nicos Anastasiades on July 23 during her tour to Nicosia, Athens, and Ankara.
After she meets with UN Deputy Special Advisor on Cyprus Elizabeth Spehar in New York, she will meet with all parties involved in the Cyprus negotiations to gather their opinions. Lute will then consult with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on her assessment as to whether or not there is any potential for resuming the Cyprus negotiations.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Spehar held separate meetings last week with both Cypriot community leaders Nicos Anastasiades and Mustafa Akinci, to prepare the ground for Lute’s visit to Cyprus.
Update: Lute will arrive on Sunday, July 22, and is expected to meet both community leaders on 23 July.
No developments are expected over the summer or before the UN General Assembly convenes in September.
