Turkey continues oil and gas exploration activities in the Eastern Mediterranean at full speed. The drilling vessel ‘Yavuz’, has begun operations off the Karpaz coast and will work in the area for three weeks. Moreover, drillship ‘Fatih’, which is to the west of Cyprus, will continue drilling activities on its current route for a few more weeks. Drilling has now reached a depth of approximately five thousand metres from sea level, Turkish daily ‘Sabah’ writes.
In addition, the paper reports that seismic research vessel ‘Oruc Reis’ will also arrive in the Eastern Mediterranean in the coming days and will support ‘Hayrettin Barbaros Paşa’ on seismic surveys.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) within the framework of the Mediterranean Shield Operation, is protecting the drilling and research vessels operating in the region. The security of the drilling vessels is ensured with warships, submarines, UAVs and warplanes. The Turkish Armed Forces provide round the clock protection for the drilling and seismic research vessels.
Turkish Minister of Energy Fatih Donmez, who paid a one-day visit to North Cyprus yesterday, flew by helicopter with Minister of Economy and Energy Hasan Taçoy to inspect the drilling vessel ‘Yavuz’.
