Water Arrives – At Last!

North Cyprus News - Gecitkoy ReservoirRepairs to the undersea water pipeline conveying fresh water from Anamur, Mersin to North Cyprus have been completed.

Completion of the project has been delayed several times because of adverse weather conditions. The water pipeline was damaged by bad weather in January.

The repair work required new high-density polyethylene pipes and their supports to replace damaged ones.

These were laid with the use of six vessels, four cranes and robots hundreds of meters below sea level.

The water which will be pumped directly to the treatment facility in the TRNC is expected to start flowing from taps within the next 24 hours.

An official ceremony will be held at the Geçitköy reservoir at 4pm today.
