President of the Air Traffic Controllers Union (HTKS), Cem Kapısız, has stated that if the training personnel’s allowances are not paid according to the current exchange rate, a strike will be held at Ercan Airport after May 4th, Yeniduzen reports.
Kapısız pointed out in a written statement that the allowances for personnel attending the basic air traffic course in Ankara since January have yet to be disbursed by the Civil Aviation Authority. He also shared a letter they sent to the Ministry of Finance regarding this issue. The letter emphasised the government’s failure to meet its legal obligations despite repeated warnings.
Kapısız said that they are giving the government until May 4th to pay all dues from January onwards based on the current exchange rate before the strike ban in Ercan ends, urging them to take necessary actions. Additionally, Kapısız warned that if the legal obligations are not fulfilled, a new strike process will commence immediately after the ban is lifted.
