An eight-year-old boy was injured in a drunk driving incident in Alsancak on Saturday evening, Kibris Postasi reports.
According to a police report, the accident happened at around 5pm on Saturday in Karaoğlanoğlu Street in Alsancak.
Fırat Yoran (41), who was driving under the influence of 163 milligrams of alcohol, was heading east on Karaoğlanoğlu Street. He carelessly allowed his car to drift to the opposite side of the road, resulting in a collision with an oncoming vehicle, driven by Ayhan Yekenkınrul (54). After the collision, Yoran’s car continued its trajectory, colliding with the rear ends of two parked saloon cars, situated in a market on the road’s southern side. Subsequently, he struck the front portion of another car, driven by Elif Kurt (38), approaching from the opposite direction, before coming to a halt.
Yusuf Çataloğlu (aged 8), a passenger in the last car to be hit, driven by Elif Kurt, sustained injuries in the accident. Following treatment at Dr. Akçiçek State Hospital in Kyrenia, he was discharged.
Fırat Yoran, the drunk driver who caused the accident, was detained, and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
