It has been a month since Sıtkı Akargöl and Emre Arslan vanished after embarking on a voyage from Güzelyurt to Kumyalı Fishermen’s Harbour aboard a rented million-dollar speedboat on May 10th, Yeniduzen reports.

Despite the boat’s hefty debt, there has been no trace of Akargöl and Emre since their disappearance a month ago.

Their families voiced concerns for Sıtkı Akargöl’s safety, expressing frustration over the lack of clear updates from the police.

Utilising CCTV footage from various locations, law enforcement identified three individuals who assisted Akargöl and Arslan in their escape on May 17th, subsequently bringing them to the Iskele District Court. These suspects were later released on bail pending trial.

Following their departure from Kumyalı Fishermen’s Harbour, Akargöl and Arslan vanished without a trace, leaving behind a trail of unanswered questions. Despite police efforts, interviews with local fishermen yielded no substantial leads, made worse by malfunctioning harbour cameras.

Further information about 35-year-old Emre Arslan revealed that Arslan, like Akargöl, is also under investigation for ‘human trafficking’.

The fact that both individuals are under investigation for the crime of ‘human trafficking’ indicates the possibility of  “a new smuggling operation”. Emre Arslan is also a drug user and entered North Cyprus from Ankara on May 10, according to information obtained from security sources in Turkey.

The lingering uncertainty weighs heavily on Fahriye Akargöl, Sıtkı’s mother, who lives in the village of Yeşilyurt in Güzelyurt. She expressed her dismay at the lack of any news regarding her son, highlighting the agonising wait endured by their family.

In the wake of this mysterious disappearance, authorities have remained tight-lipped, leaving the public in the dark about the ongoing investigation.
