Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Ozersay and his negotiating team met yesterday with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman in the in the UN buffer zone, ‘Kibris Postasi’ reports.
Following the one hour meeting with Feltman, Ozersay said that he had given him a list of topics to be discussed during the substantive talks which begin on 7th May. He also outlined areas which have potential for progress.
Ozersay also met with Greek Cypriot negotiator Andreas Mavroyiannis prior to today’s meeting.
“The most important message Feltman gave is his personal engagement with the process”. He added that Feltman’s presence in Cyprus was particularly notable in light of the current armed conflict in the Ukraine and that he had taken time out to visit Cyprus. This indicated the level of importance the UN placed on the Cyprus negotiations.
Asked about the possibility of Feltman returning to the island, Ozersay said, “It would be very beneficial if Feltman visited Cyprus more often. That would contribute to sustaining the momentum we achieved.”
