Kyrenia town mayor Nidai Güngördü has announced the signing of the new contract for a municipal project with city planners and transport specialists.
A scheme to pedestrianise parts of central Kyrenia and improve traffic flow over a 70-hectare area has been drawn up and will be presented for public consultation.
This follows a month-long car-free high street trial run at weekends in March.
Planners will provide computer-assisted animations of current traffic identifying problem areas for comprehensive study, following which meetings are planned with the public, civil society and stakeholders, a statement from Kyrenia municipality said.
The municipal project area includes Kyrenia Castle and the old yacht harbour area, Ziya Rızkı Sokak, Mustafa Çağatay Caddesi and adjoining streets.
