Mr Burak said they were ready to start the salvage operation when requested by the ship owner or when directed by the Famagusta Port Authority, depending on weather conditions.

According to a TAK new agency correspondent, the Tanzanian-flagged ship, which was unladen, had been anchored off Famagusta Port since 2 December, 2018. Violent storms yesterday caused the vessel’s anchor to drag. The tanker drifted between 500-800 metres and then ran aground on Gülseren beach.
