Following last week’s report that trucks weighing over 5 tons were continuing to violate the regulation prohibiting them using a section of the Kyrenia Nicosia main road, police stopped twelve trucks and cited their drivers who broke the law, Kibris Postasi reports.
On December 19, 2016, a new regulation was introduced, prohibiting trucks over 5 tons from travelling on the section of the Kyrenia-Nicosia road between the Kyrenia Overpass and the St. Hilarion Castle Junction between 7:00 and 8:00.
A statement from the police press office said:
“This morning, during inspections of trucks across the country, traffic teams reported 6 truck drivers who were found driving trucks weighing 5 tons or more between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m., a time when driving such trucks is prohibited. Legal action has been taken against them.
Additionally, during traffic checks conducted yesterday by the Kyrenia Police Department on the main road between Kyrenia and Nicosia, 12 truck drivers were reported for driving on the section between the underpass and St. Hilarion Junction, where it is also illegal for trucks weighing 5 tons or more to travel. Legal action has been initiated against these drivers as well“.
