It has been discovered that Sıtkı Akargöl and Emre Arslan, who had been reported missing over a week ago after they left, purportedly, on a boat trip from Kumyali Fishermans Harbour, have left the country through illegal means, Kibris Postasi reports.
According to a statement from the Police Press Office, Emre Arslan and Sıtkı Akargöl rented a speedboat and departed from the Kumyalı Fisherman’s Shelter, on May 10, as captured by the security camera of a nearby kiosk. No news had been received from the two men since.
It has since been determined that both men left the country illegally.
The police also reported the arrest of 48-year-old Y.Y., 25-year-old O.T., and 44-year-old D.Ö. for assisting Akargöl and Arslan in their illegal departure from the country.
Both Sıtkı Akargöl (25) and Emre Arslan (35) have been under investigation for alleged people trafficking, it has since emerged.
It was reported that two years ago, on August 1, 2022, Sıtkı Akargöl was being tried while free on bail. He and five others allegedly brought 24 Syrians from an unknown port in Turkey to the north of Cyprus, intending to take them to the south from the Yeşilırmak coast.
All this has led to speculation that a new human trafficking operation is under way.
